For over two years, Marvel and Netflix have set the stage for The Defenders to emerge as the MCU’s next superhero team. Finally, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will unite against their common enemies…if they can manage to stop fighting each other first!

Today, Netflix dropped the first trailer for The Defenders, which also features the first meetings of Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones, as well as an encounter between Danny Rand and Luke Cage that seems to test the limits of the Iron Fist’s power. Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple appears as the voice of reason and Stick puts it more succinctly when he tells the heroes to get their s*** together. The battle for New York’s soul has begun, and the Hand already has the advantage, and they’ve resurrected the Black Sky…

It’s no surprise that Elektra is back from the dead, but she seems to be much more dangerous now than she was before. Sigourney Weaver’s enigmatic nemesis also makes her debut in the trailer, and she seems to be calling the shots for The Hand. Note that the series is apparently trying to top Daredevil’s hallway fight by adding all of the heroes and Elektra to the mix! Now that is something to look forward to as you read Netflix’s description for the series.

Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

All 8 episodes of The Defenders will premiere on Netflix on Friday, August 18.
