The Perfect Super Bowl Cocktails for Gameday

When wine and beer just won’t do, mix up these intoxicating cocktails on game day.

You’ve planned the perfect party for the Super Bowl. You have an amazing spread of food as well as beer and wine…but you forgot about the cocktails? Don’t worry. Here’s a guide to the perfect Super Bowl cocktails to serve to your thirsty guests.

A Pre-Game Cocktail

Since coverage for the Super Bowl starts early Sunday morning, you might have guests beginning to trickle in way before you expected. Or maybe you planned for that. Either way, your guests will need something to drink while they enjoy their scrambled eggs and sausage. You can go the route of the humble mimosa (everyone loves champagne and OJ in the morning) but if you’re really going for it, you’ll serve a bloody mary. And not just any bloody mary, the Bazaar Bloody Maria from bartender Pam Wiznitzer of Trademark and Belle Shoals.

Bazaar Bloody Maria

Ingredients:

  • Red tomatoes and piri piri (Portugal)
  • Orange tomatoes and habanero (South America)
  • Yellow tomatoes and saffron (India)
  • Green tomatoes and za’atar (Middle East)
  • Pinch salt
  • Pinch pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (UK)
  • 2 ounces water

Preparation:

Blend ingredients together well and strain for seeds. The night before, make the Bloody Maria ice cubes and freeze each color individually. In a highball glass, crush or smash 1 – 2 Bloody Maria ice cubes of each tomato color. Fill the highball with the ice, layering by color. In a separate glass, combine 2 ounces Patrón Reposado, 3/4 ounce lemon juice, 3 dashes Bittermans Hellfire Bitters, and 5 dashes horseradish tincture. Pour mixture into the highball glass over ice. Add straw and garnish with a skewer that has multi-colored tomatoes, fresh squash blossom, exotic international peppers, and celery with leaf still attached.

A Stay-Hydrated Cocktail

It’s a long day of drinking and football-watching, so you have to stay hydrated. You could do this by drinking a lot of water or even Gatorade, but where’s the fun in that? The folks at George Dickel were nice enough to create a delicious football-themed cocktail that may or may not actually hydrate its drinker (it won’t). But don’t let that stop you from imbibing it on Sunday.

Dickelade

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 ounces George Dickel No. 12
  • 4 ounces lemonade
  • Lemon slice

Preparation:

Add George Dickel No.12 and lemonade in ice-filled glass and stir. Garnish with lemon.

A Texan Cocktail

The game is being played in Houston but the Lone Star State is well known for it’s Wild West history. That’s why you should be drinking a cocktail that pays tribute to the great state while also paying homage to the favorite spirit of our friendly neighbors to the south.

Cowboy Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 3 parts Jose Cuervo Especial® Gold
  • 3 parts frozen limeade concentrate
  • Coarse salt (optional)
  • 1 part orange juice
  • 8 parts ice cubes
  • 2 parts beer

Preparation:

In a blender, combine all ingredients except salt. Blend on high until smooth and slushy. Serve in salt-rimmed glasses, if desired.

A Cocktail for a Crowd

If you are expecting a large group, you don’t want to spend your whole evening making cocktail after cocktail for your friends. Prepare a big batch of punch instead and you’re guaranteed to make everyone happy. The best part? This boozy beverage, created by Flinn Pomeroy of Sweetwater Social, is really simple to prepare. Drink up!

Jägermule Punch

Ingredients:

  • 125 ounces Jägermeister
  • 42.5 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 37.5 ounces ginger syrup
  • 35 ounces Bigelow orange and spice tea
  • 60 ounces soda water (to taste)
  • 2 oranges, thinly sliced

Preparation:

Combine Jägermeister, lime juice, and ginger syrup to punch bowl. Bring 5 cups of water to a boil and add 5 tea bags of Bigelow orange and spice tea. Remove water from heat and allow to steep for 6 minutes. (You will have more tea than you are actually going to use.) Add 35 ounces of Bigelow orange and spice tea to the punch bowl. Stir punch vigorously. Add soda water to taste. Top surface of punch with sliced oranges. Serve over ice in traditional tin mugs or other glasses of your choosing. Garnish with your team’s assigned garnish and enjoy responsibly.
